My Letter to Save Chuck

This is one of the letters I wrote to the NBC execs to ask them to save "Chuck."

Mr. Silverman,

I am writing this letter in regard to the possible cancellation of NBC’s show Chuck, your company’s most fresh and best show in my opinion. I would like to give you a few reasons to keep it on the air.

From a corporate perspective, I believe Chuck has great potential in contributing to the success of NBC. Its current fan base is a loyal as they come, the critical reviews of the show are as high as they can be, and its originality sets it above many of the overused and overdone plots that encompass other shows today. When people watch Chuck, they keep watching it and are committed to it. Many like me will watch the show again through online viewing or itunes. The issue seems to be with getting non-viewers to start watching Chuck. Personally I have told many of my coworkers and friends about the show, even showing them some of the episodes from Season One, and have “converted” many. This type of grassroots campaign might not be enough to satisfy a corporate profit requirement, however, so I think there are some other macro strategies to consider.

From a personal perspective, the show is fantastic. It contains comedy, action, and romance in a wonderful even balance. Other shows attempt this, but emphasize too much of one attribute. Too much romance makes the show too much like a teen drama or soap opera. Chuck does not do this, which I think is a main reason for the loyal following. The great talents of the cast, crew, and writers should also be considered. I believe cancelling Chuck would be dismantling a dream team of television.

There are many more things I could say of the great show Chuck, but I’m going to let my actions speak louder. First I have written this letter from scratch, it is not a sample I downloaded. Also, I am working to do what I can here in my town and on my social networking sites to promote Chuck, which in turn promotes NBC. I believe many others like me are doing the same. If you would like to speak to me personally about this matter, you can reach me at (580) 320-3684 or douglasmatlock@gmail.com. Thank you for taking your time to read this letter.

Sincerely,

Doug Matlock
